Weight loss strategies.

Losing weight is simple in theory – CiCo – fewer calories in – more calories out. However, it is not this simple in practice.

Two alternative strategies to help with sustainable weight loss or weight management:

1. Be mindful – take the time to really focus on your food and enjoy what you eat. We have all wolfed food down without remembering. A simple trick is to put your fork down between bites instead of holding it in your hands. Pick it up when you are going to take the next bite. This might take some perseverance, so don’t give up. Each day commit to eating a few bites less. And if you do go off track, don’t beat yourself up, instead continue the next day and keep at it over time.

2. Give up on calorie controlled diets – rather improve your overall diet. Don’t focus eating solely for weight loss, instead focus on eating for your overall health. Follow a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and healthy fats. Bear in mind eating healthy fats is not the basis of becoming fat. There are many studies that show eating healthy fats such as avocados, olive oil, nuts and seeds help with weight management. Choosing a sustainable diet that is focused on health and not just weight loss can help you make lasting improvements.
