Fitness seasonal greetings

The festive season is upon us, so this will be my final fitness drill post for this year. It’s a time when we quite rightly make merry, eating and drinking as we celebrate the many seasonal festivities. Yet there is no need to beat ourselves up if we find office parties or dark mornings conspiring to blunt our usual dedication to fitness.

Of course, this time of year may increase the fitness challenges for the New Year, yet it also provides a perfect moment to evaluate what we would like to achieve in 2019, rather than just resort to January panic to reverse festive excess.

Assess what 2019 training routines need to deliver

Allow the mirror to help you determine what you want to work toward achieving from your 2019 exercise routine. Bear in mind that genuine physical achievement will not include ‘overnight’ transformation – nor will it be wrapped up by the third week of January. Instead, appreciate that it will require:

  • focus
  • consistency
  • dedication
  • determination
  • time and patience
  • and even courage

So, enjoy the break, determine what you want to work toward in 2019 and return focused so as not to be easy prey for a new exercise fad – or vulnerable to marketing nonsense peddled to New Year fitness hopefuls eager to shed those extra holiday pounds and transform their bodies in record time.

The secrets underpinning 2019 fitness

Stress not. Don’t worry about targets, just set the right routine that will deliver growing and sustainable results the longer and harder you work at it. Think of it as a self-nurturing strategy. Let your vision and desire drive you, not unrealistic goals. Take this path and there will be a time, probably sooner than you think, when you will look back and appreciate what you accomplish. And if at any time you feel fear or doubt creep in, revisit the vision, let it inspire the desire and you will stick to the routine. All it requires is a little faith, persistence and patience.

Slow and steady wins the race

There is only so much anyone can do in any single session, but if you plug away at it on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, the cumulative impact will be extraordinary. Self-nurture your vision and desire, settle on your 2019 routine, push yourself a little harder each day and enjoy the results as they grow right through the year. My top tip – why wait until 2019 – start today!

Thank you for your support in 2018, Merry Christmas and have a Happy and Healthy New Year!
